Giving: Twice as Good in December!

Yesterday, I had the chance to travel with Glenn to the West Fayetteville, TN church to a missions day. To say, I was encouraged by the works supported by this comparatively small church, would be an understatement. On Saturday night, I had a tough time deciding whether or not to travel out with Glenn to this event. It’s such a busy season. I’m so glad that I did. I heard about extensive work in India and Africa. I heard about the faithful brethren in Ukraine, who are living in a war siren zone all of the time. I saw pictures of the children sleeping on the tile floors in the areas of bomb refuge. But these children are watching their parents continue to evangelize, even through the horrors of war. Over lunch, I had a conversation with Brian Hall, who is using his skills as a printer to make and take thousands of books from libraries of US preachers to the places where they are needed all over the English-speaking nation of Guyana. Overall, it was a day of conviction for me…conviction that when we each use our unique situations and talents for souls, God gives the increase.

One opportunity especially stuck with me as I heard from my husband about the work at GBN. The Gospel Broadcasting Network was, like the other works, unique in its scope. While the other works were generally targeted at one area of the world, the network is a worldwide effort to present the pure gospel to every part of the world in which there is internet access. Every imaginable question about faith is easily searchable and is answered with scripture through lessons, podcasts and interviews produced by GBN. And people are searching. The guys at the network are constantly hearing from those who have discovered simple New Testament Christianity all over the US and the English-speaking world. People are finding truth and contacting the network for help in accomplishing their salvation and finding the church in their locales. It made me very glad that Glenn gets to be part of this and, especially, that Digging Deep is finding its way into the programming of this network in a larger way in 2026.

This opportunity, though, is especially timely. I rarely use any space in this blog for fund-raising. But this particular opportunity is hard to NOT mention. One of our brothers has offered to match any funds donated to the Gospel Broadcasting Network between now and  December 31st. Even if you are able to give just a small amount to GBN, your money will automatically double, if given in the next 30 days! From what I know, firsthand, about GBN, this means that the number of souls reached with the gospel will be growing exponentially, too.

I just knew there were some of you who would want to know. Of course, anytime is a good time to give to any of these sound mission works. But there are very limited times when you can make your donation go twice as far!

Here’s the info you need:

If you want to send a check, make it out to GBN and earmark it “matching funds”. Send it to:  Gospel Broadcasting Network

8900 Germantown Rd, Olive Branch, MS 38654

One more thing I heard over lunch. A missionary was telling me how that, in his travels, in a deep south US state, he came´ across a congregation of God’s people who had never even heard of the Gospel Broadcasting Network. It was, actually, in an area where there are lots of diggers. Well, if you’re a digger and you haven’t checked out the Network, you need to go and bookmark the site or download the app! Nobody should be digging without the resources that are there! They are all free. There’s never a charge for any GBN book, e-book, commentary or recording. Let me repeat: Never a charge!

If you could do your Christmas shopping through an outlet in which some donor was willing to put a dollar in your wallet for every dollar you spent, you’d find the gifts you need in that place. If you could do your soul-winning (at least some of it) through an outlet in which every donation you made was matched dollar per dollar…well, that’d be a good place to start winning some souls. I’m praying for this window of opportunity through the month of December. You pray, too!

GBN…Praying it’s the Next Right Thing!

For the past 22 years, my husband, Glenn, has preached from the pulpit of the West Huntsville church in Huntsville, Alabama. For ten of those years, he had the great blessing of serving as one of her shepherds. I don’t know, for sure, how many classes he’s taught there and how many lessons he’s preached, but, conservatively, we would have to know it’s been well over a thousand messages—maybe two thousand, all told. That’s a bunch of his life’s words that have been spoken as a part of the work of this great church.

The work he has agreed to take now is full-time work with the Gospel Broadcasting Network. We do not believe he will preach less (probably more), but he will preach in a different and broader venue. He will continue to hold seminars and gospel meetings around the nation, but he, along with other men, will also be developing tools for use in churches around the English-speaking world. His first two projects will be developing an elders’ seminar to be presented both live-and-in-person, and digitally for churches to use to strengthen leadership;  and, a digital series for congregations to use to teach and nurture new converts. Glenn will get to do Q&A sessions for the network. He’s excited about these and other projects that will follow, Lord willing. Maybe best of all is the fact that GBN now has many people at any given time, who request Bible study as they search for the path to knowing God and salvation. Glenn will get to study with lots of those people. He will potentially get to lead more people to the Lord than he ever has before.  We are already praying about these souls.

With GBN director Don Blackwell (center) and Alan Highers

We both believe in the work of GBN. We already love her director, Don Blackwell, and have enjoyed a long and effectual relationship with the board of directors of GBN and those faithful people who make up its staff. We are amazed at the great work done by GBN and at the fact that it is funded entirely by donations from the people of God. On top of this, the programming of the network never contains advertising of any sort or solicitation of funds. There are lots of GBN products—digital books, commentaries, podcasts, etc…from which people benefit, but they are almost always free products and they are never sold sold by GBN. (The GBN digital commentaries are sold by Logos, by agreement, but the monies collected from those goes to the writers; not to GBN.)  GBN is completely supported by contributions and there is never any pitch made to those who are not members of the church of Christ! The available free GBN resources are found here:  https://gbntv.org/ This is amazing evidence of the generosity of Christians. We are excited that the network is blessed to be stronger today and to reach more people than ever before. Many have been led to obey the gospel and claim the hope of an eternal inheritance as a result of the work of GBN. The work is phenomenal in lots of ways. Glenn will continue to serve on its board of directors. That board is under the guidance of the elders at the Southaven church near Memphis, Tennessee.

We are thankful that we will get to keep working, as members, with our family at West Huntsville. We would have had a very hard time taking this new job with GBN, had the West Huntsville elders thought it best for us to worship elsewhere. We love them and we think it’s important for our grandchildren to be a part of the West Huntsville church. We know of no greater eldership to be watching for the souls our family.   I’m especially grateful that our Digging Deep podcasts will continue to come to you from West Huntsville. I hope you will keep  thanking the elders at West Huntsville as you have opportunity.

SO, here are the short answers to the questions folks have wondered and/or asked me in the last few days. These are pending, as always, that our Lord is willing.

No. We are not moving from the red house on Powell Street.

Yes. The GBN work is a full-time job.

Yes. Glenn will still travel and hold seminars and meetings, and I will get to do ladies days and PTP and camps, etc…as the schedule allows

No. We will not be leaving the West Huntsville church. We will be active and working.

No. Glenn will no longer be filling the local pulpit at West Huntsville. We are praying for the best man God has for that pulpit!

Yes. The new edition of Digging Deep will be coming out next summer.

Yes. The podcasts will still be coming from West Huntsville.

Yes. I hope Jennifer Benavides will keep helping me for as long as we both shall dig and we hope to dig for a long time to come!

Yes!  I hope to get to travel some with Glenn in this new job. I love getting to be with sisters, and I may have a grandchild or two along for some of the adventures.

Please keep us in your prayers. We want to “do good and no harm” as Glenn often admonishes his friends as he tells them good-bye. The good we crave in our lives is for heaven and His glory.

This is Exciting…Digging Deep on the GBN App!

That’s right. Gospel Broadcasting Network has a great app for your device and it now features a “Ladies Only” tab which highlights our study…Digging Deep! It’s easy to use. It’s growing (and DD is even pretty in pink…or maybe it’s mauve.) Everything’s not up yet, but Jen is working hard to get more and more of the material app-ready and the best part is, all back-studies are there already and all podcasts for the current study are there, too…in one easy-to-find place.

Here’s the low-down (or, literally the download). Go to your app store and download the GBN app. It’s free and only takes a few seconds.  At the top of the home screen, tap on “Ladies Only”. Then you can’t miss the various sections of our study. The tabs look like this: Finally, tell everyone you know. Spread the word. I would love for every single person who’s studying along to have access to the many materials from the good folks at GBN. My husband is privileged to serve on the board of directors for GBN and I can attest to the soundness and practicality of the content. Take a listen to the fresh, new podcast called “The Authentic Christian” for starters or watch the conversion story of my friend Will Tucker in the GBN original movie “A Little Cup of Wisdom.”

If you like the app, log on to the GBN facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GBNOrg) and send them a message to let them know.  Be sure to let them know you are a study participant. The more you talk, the more folks the app will ultimately reach. Many souls around the world have been led to Christ by the network which is now largely evangelizing via internet. We’re blessed to get to be a little part of that massive evangelism. Digging Deep is honored to have been invited to be a little part of this great work. (And I feel little bit more official already, now that DD is featured on a real app!)

See Brad Harrub’s Debate Tonight on GBN

The subject matter is whether or not atheism makes people and cultures lose their moral compasses. You and I might think there’s little to talk about if that’s the axis of discussion, but I think you will find this rhetorical contest engaging and ultimately important for your families to witness. It occurred in Charleston a couple of weeks ago during Darwin week, but if you are like me, and were unable to be in Charleston that night, you will want to catch it tonight on GBN. Hosted by Glenn Colley and Don Blackwell, Dr. Brad Harrub and Dr. Jim Miller go round and round, literally, about the relevance of the Divine Authority in moral decision making. I don’t know about you, but I am excited about the revival of debate in our spiritual culture. I believe challenges to the status quo, in our thinking and behavior, makes us re-evaluate and, when we honestly seek for truth through challenges, our faith is renewed. Here are the exciting details. Hope you can catch it tonight.
