Digging Deep Conversations

Bless Your Heart by Cindy Colley

Limited T-shirts and Hoodies Left. Instructions Here.

Today, I dropped my husband at the airport at 7:15 a.m. (He recovered from all injuries!) I then traveled to Nashville to pick up all those back-ordered copies of the new Digging Deep book.  (They were heavy!)I went to the wrong loading dock first and the prankster at the loading dock told me that my printing company had suddenly gone out of business. He was NOT funny! Eliza Jane and I finally got those boxes and boxes of books loaded and started home. We grabbed a quick bite on the way home (The bite was a large one.) and made it home in time  to drop (She recovered too!) Eliza back at home, and then I turned around and went back into town for a doctor’s appointment. I then ran home (I was out of breath.) and baked cookies for our Digging Deep time tonight (We dug way deeply without heavy equipment.)

I wrote the above paragraph, without the parentheses, last night and then put the laptop down because I kept dropping it on my face as I was lying there trying to communicate to you. I’m sleep deprived, lately!  When proofreading that paragraph this morning, before an 8 a.m. dentist appointment, I realized just how very frequently we use figures of speech or idioms in our speaking and writing. Just in this little exercise, I became acutely aware of how often it is in Bible study that we need to research what an idiom used in Scripture may actually have meant in the day, and to the audience, in which it was communicated; things like “a camel through the eye of a needle”( Mark 10:23)), or “Abraham ’s bosom” (Luke 16:22), or “eat their own bread” (2 Thessalonians 3:12), or “drink water from your own cistern” (Proverbs 5:15). I’m just throwing this in (I have a good throwing arm.) randomly, because it hit (ouch, again) me so BIG this morning, but let’s watch for idioms as we study these conversations.

The podcast is tonight here at 7:00 CST: https://thecolleyhouse.org/live-digging-deep-video-podcast. Hannah Colley will join me. (It’s been too long. I’m excited about this co-host!) Today is a great day to invite someone to view the podcast and study along. It’s easy catch-up through November, so it’s not too late. I did get all those books unloaded into the basement, so if you ordered in September, your book will arrive shortly. We are working hard and we are so sorry for the delays that some of you have encountered. More books can be ordered currently without a long wait for shipping.

I’m listing below the very limited sizes of t-shirts and hoodies we have left. The t-shirts are 20 dollars and the hoodies are 34 dollars (plus postage). If you want a shirt or hoodie, the ONLY way to get one is to email me at byhcontest@gmail.com. Please don’t text me or call me or FB message me. Email this address. I will let you know if I still have one for you as I fill these orders, first-come/first serve. I’ve had lots of ladies notify me in so many different venues that I can never know who was first. So THE way to get one (or more) is by emailing byhcontest@gmail.com.

Please go ahead and list your address and the size you need from these limited sizes. If I have it, I will mail it to you and include the amount owed in your package. We just have a few (sometimes even just one) of each size, so we will just fill as many as we can in the order received in that email account only. I’ll post a list soon of those who should be watching for a shirt or hoodie! Thanks so much for being so patient with us.

Here’s what we have:

T-shirts sizes, as of now:

Hoodie sizes, as of now:

Digging Deep Books: We got the call!

DD sighting at Keeper’s Retreat last weekend.

Today I got the word, at last. Digging Deep books will be ready for pick-up from the printer this Friday!  That’s the good news. The bad news is that I have to be on a plane early in the  morning tomorrow (Wednesday) to the Oklahoma City area and I cannot return home till Saturday, when Glenn and I finish speaking at Legacy Family Camp. We’ve notified the printer that I will be there early next Monday to pick up the rest of our Digging Deep books. Once in my SUV, I will get them in the mail  quickly to all of those who are waiting on orders. I can’t really tell you how happy I will be to fill these orders. It’s been a stressful wait and I am thankful it’s almost over. If you need books, order now and the wait will be relatively minimal. Our apologies for this year’s delays that were excessive. We’re going to try to reveal the topic earlier next summer and also avoid the back-order. We keep learning each year . This year was a huge digging year and we’re just praying the spiritual harvest will parallel the huge dig. We are undeserving of such a blessing as the encouragement we get from you, but thanks from a deep place!

Remember the podcast is next Tuesday (10/22). I hope you can join us! All dig-a-bits for October are coming, too. It’s a great time to invite a friend. Books are just about to be a lot  more attainable and it’s an easy catch-up. Remember also, there’s a free download at www.thecolleyhouse.com, if you prefer that.

Dig a little deeper today!

Bless Your Heart by Cindy Colley

Happy for Diggers. Sad for Delays.

Please read this one if you are digging.

  1. Digging Deep has gone “big guns” this year. It’s larger than ever and we just did not anticipate this much growth in the study. We ordered what we thought was an overage of the deluxe study guides, but we are completely out. If you have ordered in the last three days, your books are now back-ordered and the time at which you will receive them will likely be about four weeks from order time. I regret this so very much! If you would like to make copies of the first two chapters of the deluxe study guide, as some have asked, please feel free as you wait for your hard copies. Alternately, of course, download the free copy from the website. If you ordered and wish to cancel your order because of the delay, let us know that, too. Please don’t copy past chapter two, though. (We may be losing our shirts with this back-order. But if we do, we will grab a terra cotta colored t shirt!)
  2. If you ordered prior to September 15th, your books should be en-route to you.
  3. If you ordered in August and have not received, we trust that you have messaged us and we are checking on those orders today. In the midst of this amazingly wonderful time, our church email server (the one that Glenn used to process the orders), experienced a major malfunction. We believe we have all of your orders now and are trying to be sure that all of the August orders are on their way. By far, the vast majority of them have been delivered, but there are a few that are contacting us and we are working hard on those.  I am going to be busy today answering the individual texts I have received about those few stragglers.
  4. The video podcast will be happening live next Tuesday night (9/24) at 7 CST. I hope you will join us here. https://thecolleyhouse.org/live-digging-deep-video-podcast. Please text your comments and we will have a great discussion. Pisa Soli will be co-hosting and she is always insightful and thorough. She (and the Soli family) has experienced a lot of the residual and awful effects of Genesis 2 (our anchor chapter this month) during the last year. All of the sadness that we encounter is resultant from the entrance of sin and death into our world, of course. This first conversation is predicated on that realization and can be helpful to us all as we grieve pain and loss. It also breathes into our desperate souls the hope of Calvary. Hope you are making plans to watch and text!
  5. There has also been a glitch this week in the dissemination of the Bless Your Heart blog. Thanks to Jennifer Benavides and Jack VanHook, this has now been repaired. This was yet another way that communication about the books, the shortage and your orders was delayed. We hope all is up and running now and we invite you to watch the blog and the Digging Deep page for updates as you study.
  6. I cannot adequately express gratitude for the way you text. It is always kind. It is always gracious and forgiving. It is, in short, full of the Lord. (The tech, on the other hand, seems to be full of the enemy. It has truly been one issue after the other.) Huge thanks from the Colleys to the sisterhood. We are so very thankful to (and for) the diggers. There are thousands and they are in almost all states and Canada and South America and Australia. Perhaps you dig somewhere else. Be sure and let us know. Last night, I got a message from one of our members at West Huntsville who is traveling in Florida. They worshipped with a small church of 15-20 members in this little Florida port. There was a group of diggers in that church. If you travel while digging, be sure to post a photo with hashtag #whereintheworldisdiggingdeep. And I pray that, very soon, if you are waiting, Digging Deep will be in your mailbox. I will breathe a sigh of relief when that is accomplished.
  7. The Dig-A-Bits have begun. Watch for these on the DD facebook page.
  8. Invite others! Several have watched baptisms result from inviting. He is so faithful! The catch-up is easy through November. Also remember that previous studies remain available at https://www.thecolleyhouse.org
  9. Please pray that, in spite of these delays, the study will not be hampered and that souls will be around the throne in the great day as a result of women in the Word.  I pray the souls in my reach will be moving heavenward as I study these Conversations.

Digging Deep: Gen Z for Zeal

Darcie and Abigail: two encouraging diggers this fall!

Podcast is a week out! Find it here: https://thecolleyhouse.org/live-digging-deep-video-podcast on Tuesday the 24th at 7 CST. Comments so important and welcome! Pisa Soli is co-host and she’s a fantastic student of the Word. I’m overwhelmed by the level of interest in the topic from the Word and the excitement this fall about all things Digging Deep. KEEP INVITING! It’s a very easy catch-up until November!

Dig-a Bits are in the edit process and are coming your way soon on the DD facebook page.

Now, it thrills my innermost being to hear of young ladies who are in the Word. Darcie Smith, in Montgomery, Alabama completed the study last year. She’s 14 and this year she invited a few friends to do it with her. They want a small and intimate little group, so it didn’t take long for another small and intimate group to form in the same church. These girls have it together! One mom each week is present wherever these girls are studying and these moms agree that it’s a great place to pick up insights for their own Digging Deep studies. This is the best ever! One mom said she even wept a little bit because the girls’ study and dedication to the Lord is so very palatable in their study room!

Another mom in this same church has invited a co-worker of her teen daughter’s to do the study with her and she has agreed. The teen, in this case, has just left for college, but her salty (in a good way) influence in the coffee shop is now materializing into a Bible study, It’s phenomenal to see the doors open when we just start speaking His message to the world! It’s also becoming more evident every day to me that each of us has a large or small part to play. We don’t do it alone. But, just like the young barista in the coffee shop got a coworker to the point of Bible study and then her mom took over from there, we all can be evangelists! Some are better inviters. Some are better actually in the Word with people. Some are better organizers, getting those groups together, and some are better at encouraging those who are at home doing the study by themselves. We all play a part!

I got some mail from some women this week who are in remote areas of the country, without physical accessibility to encouragers. Zoom has been their answer and they are growing like weeds. Only they are not weeds. They are the fruit-bearing trees that are planted by the rivers of water and they shall not be moved! I want to share a bit about them next time! Right now, I need to work on the week-ends orders! Remaining back-ordered shirts are going out today!

Stay in the Word. He is so good!

Random Conversations…10 things.

  1. Frustrated about this one after three “proofings”! In chapter three, it is obvious that the Big headline near the bottom of the page should read “Samson’s Mother”; not “Manoah’s Mother”. She was Manoah’s wife. So go correct your copies. Good catch by Marlon Retana, while translating.
  2. If you want a shirt or hoodie, hard deadline is this Sunday. We are trying, like crazy, to get everything out to you.
  3. If you are local to North Alabama, make your plans to come to West Huntsville on Saturday the 21st, to hear a ladies day about keeping our mental “selves” healthy in the Word and helping each other stay in a “good” place. I’m looking forward to it. Kim Chalmers and Katie Holder will talk to us. (As always, if you are able to attend, you get one pass, on one assignment, in the Conversations study, and you still get to be a finisher.) Message me with any questions. Register here: http://www.westhuntsville.org
  4. First monthly podcast will be on the 24th of September at 7. Watch the Digging Deep page for details and join us! Make your comments and ask your questions live from that page! We will try to address them all. It will be a great review of Month One! Pisa Soli will be joining me as co-host. For local ladies, she will also be leading the discussion on the previous night at West Huntsville.

Pisa is on the left. Digger Rachel from Illinois is on the right.

  5. Be patient about your orders, especially if your order included a tote, shirt, or hoodie. All of those were hugely popular and are back-ordered. The good news is that all items arrive next week, so we will be shipping the back-orders next week. Thanks so much for your understanding.
  6. Julie Orr, once again, is doing a phenomenal job in the virtual group “Mama’s Monday Moments” Details are all over the DD page and the Mama’s Monday Moments page, as well. She is a great Bible student, who is a faithful Digger, as well. I have to trust someone an awful lot to endorse without hearing every word of the MM virtual study. (It’s not that I know everything about the Bible, of course. It’s that I am fiercely protective of the study we do together. We ask hard questions, but we are ever dependent on the Word for the answers.) She is that kind of student/teacher.
  7. This one is huge! THANK YOU! I have never, in all of my days, seen women who are more like Jesus, than the women who study along in our big group. Sometimes, when we (the Colleys) bungle an order, I cannot believe your grace and kindness. Thanks so very much! Proverbs 12 says “The tongue of the wise brings healing.” You bring us healing all the time and we are ever grateful!
  8. Please keep inviting. It’s such an easy catch up all the way through November, so fall is the “invite” time. Our book supply is running low, but we will order more, if the need arises. That’s a great problem to have. Invite! Then invite someone you failed to think of before. (And don’t forget there’s a free download!)
  9. Pray! Please pray daily for the study. Prayer changes things. And prayer changes my study from rote to real every week. He is so good.
  10. As you study Eve, resolve….Resolve to be keenly aware that the old devil has no new tricks, but he will surely use every one that made Eve succumb in the garden. He is crafty and quick and can ruin your life in a matter of moments. Don’t let him get all up in your fruit tree. Keep bearing good fruit.
