Bear with Me, Here!

Where in the World is Digging Deep? Well, of course it’s out on the porch of lots of cabins in Sevierville, Tennessee this weekend as women convened  for the TLC conference. The theme this year was “STAND” and stand she did, when DeAnn Childers looking up from chapter one of “The Hand of God”, was staring directly into the face of a black bear!

Actually, DeAnn, froze for a minute before standing. (I think she’d tell you, that though that was the smart thing to do–freeze–it was totally her limbic brain system that kept her sitting perfectly still on that porch swing. (The little person from “Inside Out” in DeAnn’s  brain was definitely the purple guy.) I think it took her frontal lobe (her reasoning power) a little longer to catch up! (She surely didn’t get any close-ups of this scavenging black bear who was staring her down!…She did, however, hop up and shoot a couple, after she’d ambled down the stairs.)

This video is from the cabin owner’s security camera. (DeAnn is on the swing on the left of the footage.)  Such a cute little bear, when she’s not staring you down at three feet!

DeAnn gets the prize for:

  1. Getting the most unlikely candidate to take a look at Digging Deep. (That’s probably what she wanted and I’m sure DeAnn was delighted to invite her to join Digging Deep! Always be ready to invite!)
  2. Reminding us that there’s always unexpected adventures in deep Bible study. There’s stuff there you just don’t expect on your regular Saturday afternoon!
  3. Teaching us to pray those quick Nehemiah prayers.
  4. Concentration! (There were noises going on around her, but DeAnn was hyper-focused on Asaph or Belshazzar or somebody very interesting! Way to be in the Word!)
  5. Getting us thinking…”What a way to go!” I mean, if you are ever going to be attacked by a bear, could there be a better way to leave the world than while you’re studying “The Hand of God”!?
  6. Showing us the real power of the Sword of the Spirit. (That bear may have eaten her had he not seen that sword!)
  7. Studying a chapter on Belshazzar and having the best real-life illustration: “Like a roaring lion and a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over poor people.”  (Proverb 28:15) …(Well, she could have charged. She was surely in range. Look at that footprint!)

Okay, DeAnn…truly. You get the prize. You can choose any thirty dollars worth of  stuff from The Colley House (www.thecolleyhouse.org) OR I’m going to send you a delectable package of bear claws. You can reminisce as you eat them! Just let me know! 1 Samuel 17…God delivered you from the paw of the bear!

You needed some TLC!

(And here’s the AI generated one from her cabin-mates…)
