“If Mama Ain’t Happy”….Read it with me!

I have not read this book yet…at least not all of it. I’m just like you…I opened it up, turned to a couple of the funny parts and belly-laughed with my husband as I tried to read aloud about the insanity of Lads to Leaders in the Opryland Hotel:

“It was just one of several programs throughout the brotherhood aimed at making leaders out of our little ones who flush our debit cards and leave the seat up. This worthy goal was inspired by the same guy who tried to construct a replica of the Eiffel Tower from mayonnaise.

But we go along with it. We are convicted deep in our hearts by the idea that our coming will eventually result in the breakdown of communism in Cuba through our future generation, and by the fact that the rooms are half price for the weekend.

If you don’t participate in a program of this type, let me urge you to, because there’s no way you can understand the dynamics until you’ve been there–until you too, have traveled three hundred miles with a sculpture of Elisha stuck in your hip, only to have someone fall on it and crush it as you round the hotel portico. “

I have not read it all. But still, I want to tell you that I recommend it. I know it’s author too well–so well that I’m a little afraid I may be the butt of the joke in one of the humor segments. But it’s the serious parts of the book (the bulk of it) that I really want to recommend. See, I know her family. I know her faith. But most importantly, I read daily the book from which she teaches. I already know her work will be deeply centered in the Word (All of the Publishing Designs books are faithful to the Book.)  If Mama Ain’t Happy will convict and motivate me to do His will. It will make me better. I already know.

I hope you can read it with me. You can get it at lots of places, but one place is from the author, herself. I bet she would even sign your copy!  Celine is at sparksremarks@hotmail.com.

Here are her other books. You should order all of them if you are new to her work. They are that good!

John Robert is an Early Bloomer! (and other pertinent stuff)

The travel to Indianapolis to speak to ladies this weekend was a gift. God’s good like that. Sometimes the blessings at home are large, but become obscured by my weak human mind in the midst of everyday life’s stresses or the common discouragements that we all face at times. I got to go with my favorite person on the planet to a place where the high today (Saturday) was 71 degrees. (Sorry for your heat advisory this weekend, Huntsville people.) I’ve never seen a congregation that knows how to do hospitality better than those friends at Shelbyville Road. Even as we hurried off to the airport, Mrs. Lois handed us Chick-Fila cards for our lunch-on-the-run. That big bag of hotel goodies and snacks was something else, too. I loved it, but I cannot eat chocolates at 4 pm and almonds at midnight every day, for sure! Family in Him is always far better to us than we deserve! We are constantly indebted to many for much.

Some have been asking about the prices for the Digging Deep materials/swag that will be introduced at PTP Spark on August 23rd. Some of you have told me you’re planning to take home enough to share with all the sisters in your congregation. We have none of it in hand yet, but all has been ordered and promised by Spark-ignition on August 22nd.

Here’s what we will have this year:

Study books ( deluxe spiral bound): $17.50 each

Bundle of six or more study books: $16.50 each

Study books (downloadable, printable): free of charge

T-shirts (Comfort Colors): $18.50

Long-sleeved hoodies (sweat shirt type): $29.00

Book and T-shirt bundle: $34.00

I hope this is helpful.

Speaking of PTP Spark…We will close the registration on August 14th. (www.polishingthepulpit.com/spark). We’ve had a great response and have already changed our Sunday potluck to an express bagged take-away lunch because of the bulging crowd. That’s a great problem to have! Our kids’ classes are filling quickly and the excitement in our diggers is perhaps at an all-time high. We hope you can come! Our outside speakers are exceptional (and so are Lisa, Lindsey, Emily, Carol, Holly and Glenn Holmes! =) We have even named one of Spark’s guest speakers after the event, itself…Celine Sparks! Come on! Bring a saucer, because your cup will overflow! Don’t forget to email Shannon and Sophia Bond (shanmb585@gmail.com) if you want to make a cute plaid pumpkin (pictured here) while you enjoy fellowship with other Pumpkin artisans.

One more of the most amazing things I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. John Robert Moon, at five days old attended all sessions of our marriage seminar this weekend and he lives a couple of hours from Indianapolis where the seminar occurred! (Talk about planning ahead! He should be all ready by the time he’s choosing a spouse!) He attended worship last Sunday morning in-utero while his mom was beginning labor for his delivery and he has already attended one additional gospel meeting in the middle of this week since his delivery. Okay! I simply stand amazed! I got to hold him for a few minutes, play with those little still-blue-ish toes and search for an escape route to sneak him away with me! Alas, I did come home without him. I love cuddling blessings so fresh from God!

Israel is still on for November of 2022. Diggers only may register for that trip during the remaining months of 2021. (https://thecolleyhouse.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/2022-Digging-Deep-Bible-Land-Passages-Tour-Brochure-Israel-and-Rome.pdf)… Dates are kind of confusing perhaps on this link, but the trip is an AUTUMN trip.)  Then we will open that up to all Christians. It’s an amazing trip. I mean, it’s the best I’ve ever heard of in Israel…and ROME, this time! Imagine Israel without denominational or Catholic trappings…just worshipping and learning with fellow Christians! Blessings on all your plans for Him! In all your plans acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

What I’m Reading…

…and I’m so excited about this book! I’m three chapters in and I already know it’s going to make me better and  stronger for the battle I constantly fight, and often lose, with the devil, over how I use my tongue.  Oh, so many times in my life, my dragon has come unleashed. One of my biggest regrets, in fact, is a day a couple of years ago when I was coming off a few sleepless nights, a family funeral, and a medicine that was affecting me in some negative ways, when my dragon came unleashed and breathed its fire at Celine Sparks, this book’s author. So many times, when things like this happen, you can ask forgiveness till the cows come home (or the dragon takes a nap), you can be assured it’s been given, but you will still be filled with regret. If only we could be prepared BEFORE the dragon awakes…BEFORE those days when we have so many excuses (That’s right…excuses) to set on fire the course of nature, as James said it.

That’s why I’m loving this book. It’s full of tools to help me be the dragon tamer I want to be. It’s Biblical in a way that forces me to confront the dragon–to realize His mighty destructive nature–and to do practical things to recognize, at the right moments, how to keep him from ruining relationships, especially the relationship most precious: the one I have with my Father.

I can’t wait to finish. If I can do this one thing, I’ll will have arrived. I mean, if I can control my tongue, I can manage the rest of me. That’s what James said in 3:2. If I can just get the bridle in that dragon’s mouth…

If  you’re working on that bridle and leash, you could use this tool. There are many places to buy the book, but I’d order it directly from Celine by emailing her at sparksremarks@hotmail.com.

Don’t Miss This Time with Sisters!

If you’ve never been able to attend the bi-annual ladies seminar at West Huntsville, you’ve missed some of the most fortifying material and fellowship to which I’ve ever been exposed. We think this year will be no exception.

As we’ve done in recent years, we will begin on Friday night at 7pm with our “Sweet Hour of Prayer.” It’s a time when we bring our needs before each other, but most importantly, before  our Father—together. We spend time in prayer on Friday night and, then on Saturday, you’ll leave with a list of those sisters who have requested prayers….for souls, for the sick, for the hurting, for the rejoicers–so you can keep praying at home.  Each time we’ve done this, our faith has grown as we, through ensuing months, have seen the answers to the petitions that emerged in this session. The truth is, God knows how to answer better than we know how to ask, but He wants us to ask! We do this in a rich time together on Friday night before our morning of study on Saturday.

Celine Sparks. our speaker this year for the Saturday sessions, is eminently qualified to encourage us. She will make you laugh—at yourself and at her. That will be a medicine for your soul (Proverbs 17:22). But she will call to your spirit, too, through the Word, to reach its full potential, letting the Word empower you to do things for the greatest cause on earth—things you may not have thought of doing before. I really believe souls will be saved as a result of the ripple effects of this seminar. They will be saved, first, because of the blood of Jesus, of course, but when we become more keenly and practically aware of the fact that we really can do all things through Christ (Phil. 4:13), we connect people to the saving blood. Maybe you will get an idea that will impact your child eternally. Perhaps you will have an “aha!” moment about what to say to a lost co-worker. Maybe someone you can bring with you will be encouraged to shed self-pity or an inward focus and, instead, focus on serving others and ultimately winning souls. Maybe your daughter will be stronger for some temptation that’s soon to be headed her way. Maybe you’ll find a book that is just what a struggling girlfriend is needing. Maybe you will leave with a renewed will to pray for a lost friend every day. Maybe some souls will be around the throne one day because of these few hours we have to refocus on the powerful influence we each can wield. This one hope makes every ounce of preparation and effort for the day far beyond “worth-it!”

I challenge you to share this invitation–not because it’s mine, but because it could make an eternal difference. Some of us cannot go to a foreign missionary site to teach home Bible studies. But everyone who reads this can share with someone. Everyone who attends can invite at least one someone to come with her. If everyone who reads would do those two things—share and personally invite another—I believe the day will have super power to strengthen our homes and congregations. You don’t have to be at the seminar to go to heaven, of course. But it just might help!

As always, there’s free housing and fellowship with our sweet ladies. Snacks and lunch are provided. You can register here: http://seminar.westhuntsville.org/registration/ and you should do that today!(Scroll to the bottom for a menu that will direct you to all details! Feel free to print flyers for your group!) We hope all of our housing is all used up and all of our food is eaten! Don’t forget to share!
