Tonight’s the second Digging Deep podcast. We’ve already had some interesting questions submitted for discussion and you can join in, too, with calls and comments at http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/112808.
And, speaking of discussions, I just had a long one with a woman who believes the Bible to be inspired by the Supreme God, but who also believes there are other books that are divinely inspired. She believes the Bible is a great book among other great books. She thinks there other religions besides Christianity that can save men.
The inherent problem with her assessment of scripture and Christianity is the Bible’s own claim of exclusivity. It asserts that it contains the entirety of God’s revealed will to man. Christ was very exclusive, too. He said “No man can come to the Father except by me,”(John 14:6). That’s pretty non-inclusive. Listen to the warning given those who would preach some other gospel than that of Christ revealed in the Word (Galatians 1:6-12):
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
The truth of the matter is this: The Bible claims to contain all we need to know to equip us to every good work (II Tim. 3:16,17). It claims to contain all of the one and only gospel. So, if I believe there is a revelation of God outside of the Bible, I, of necessity, deny the truth of the Bible. Either God is The One and Only Supreme Being or He is a liar. Either the Bible is His complete Will for man or it is irrelevant. Either the Bible is the only authority for my life or it is a fraudulent counterfeit.
I hope it is relevant to you. There are so many fulfilled prophecies, manuscripts found, nuggets of scientific foreshadowing and historical evidences for its authenticity, that faith is the reasonable response. Given that, the Word will one day be extremely relevant to my friend. That day of relevance is known as the last day. Jesus said it this way:
He who rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day, (John 12:48).
I pray that the Word becomes relevant in her life before that day.
Come study it with us tonight on the podcast. You’ll find it extremely pertinent to the challenges you are facing.
