The I-Phone had been run over, but it was ringing. Unable to answer, because of the damage to the phone, the pedestrian who found the phone. posted pictures of it to a community news group on Facebook. The phone, itself, was just like a bajillion others out there and, of course, the ring was coming from Devan, the girl who had laid the phone on her car, while taking care of other things, prior to leaving Bible study on that Wednesday night at the North Jackson church, in Jackson, Tennessee.
The phone traveled a pretty good distance on the vehicle. Lost on a very busy road, the chances of it being returned were not great. But even better than an activated “find-my-phone” app was the identifying sticker on the phone. This is the way Devan’s phone was marked: Look closely at the sticker in the bottom left of this photo that appeared in the community news group:
It took only a few moments for someone who was a digger to see the photo in the Jackson news group. (I should say here that I had coincidentally been the guest speaker for the ladies at the North Jackson church that evening. My own phone started lighting up as I traveled back home. The NJ diggers assumed that it was my phone that lay broken and dying on the side of that busy intersection. After all, I lose it once a day—even lost it in Jericho while riding a camel!)
But Rose Banks saw the blurb on Facebook. She contacted Kelli Gough, one of the leaders of the North Jackson Digging Deep group, Kelli first ruled me out through family members in Huntsville who contacted me quickly. Kelli then started messaging her group. Devan took a minute to get the news. After all, she didn’t have a phone!
I saw Devan again one week later and she showed me the phone. It had spent the night at the i-phone hospital, it had a brand new screen and was in perfect working order.
But it was that sticker—that “God of More” sticker— that quickly connected that lost phone to the sweet group of faithful diggers at North Jackson.
Sometimes, Digging Deep is just a great connection tool for women in the church. And sometimes it brings something lost back home. Sometimes, it’s evens something more important than a phone. He is the God of More! I love Him!
